Ok I think ive fixed it. I recently bought a PDU and thought it would be nice to connect its network port. It didnt light up on my switch so thought it wasnt doing anything and ignored it. unplugging the pdu from the network seems to have solved it.

Still strange to me how by just having that connected can cause this problem to 1 pc and nothing else on the network.

Hey guys,

I've been having trouble with my PC connecting to the internet. It was previously working completely normal but now Chrome and troubleshooter keep saying I have a DNS issue and ive tried a few fixes already and nothing is working. I've reinstalled the LAN driver, manually set the DNS to 8888-8844 and also tried the following commands to reset the DNS,

ipconfig /flushdns

ipconfig /registerdns

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

netsh winsock reset

Other devices connected to my switch are working fine and my PC can connect to the network and see other devices so hardware seems to fine. I can see that IPv4 has internet access but IPv6 does not.

Any help would be much appreciated,

Thanks.

Its gotta be a software issue, you're connected to the internet.

Try firing up Edge and see if that has the same issue.

Just double cheked it, edge is giving the same error

Can you ping something beyond Googles DNS? Try pinging www.google.com.

Huh, the issue is not with anything you have control over. Your computer is connected to the internet and you've verified the problem exists in 2 different browsers.

Time you get on the phone with your ISP, I'd suspect they are having exchange issues.

Edit - most ISPs will have a service checker on their website, can you get online on your phone to check?

Edit 2 - One thing that always makes me chuckle with my ISP is you ring their support number, select the options for broken internet and they begin by telling you to go to their website 😄

Then I'm at a total loss because you can ping Googles DNS which is beyond your ISPs DNS but you cannot ping a website.

Do you have a custom DNS server set in your IPv4 settings? If yes put it on auto and see if that helps.

Ive tried auto and manual settings. As you can see IPv4 apparantly has internet but v6 does not. I dont know what this means but here you go.

IPv6 is also set to auto

That's nothing to worry about. IPv6 support is mostly for internal use at the moment. You can talk to Googles DNS but not beyond it which is kind of impossible since you have no control over the packet once it leaves your router.

Look through the routers settings, see if you can find your ISPs DNS address and see if you can ping that.

Another good test would be to (if possible) connect the PC by WiFi and pull the Ethernet.

Are you the only device on Ethernet?

I still can't understand how you could talk to Googles DNS but not beyond it. That is some 👻 stuff 🙂

Anyway, glad you got it sorted.

No the mac was on ethernet using the same switch the pdu was plugged into. The PDU was refurbished so could've been connected to a server or had some custom settings in the past that my pc didnt like. I really dont know haha
