So I have an old potato iMac, it doesnt have thunderbolt 3, or even usb 3. The CPU is actually is kinda competent, but the graphics card is an absolute potato. Is there any way I can use an E-gpu on it?  I'd prefer a new ish graphics card but its really what would work. Thanks for any help!

Which exact iMac?
Some of them had removable GPUs, so you could open it up and replace it.

Can you get the exact model?
It should be on the bottom of the stand - it will be an A followed by 4 numbers (like A1314, A1346, etc.)

Alright.

The GPU isn't replaceable, but it does have 2 Thunderbolt ports.

I don't know much about Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2, but one of our Mac experts might know if it's possible to connect an eGPU to a Thunderbolt port.

@ProjectBox153, do you know about or know anyone who can help with this? Here's the page on everymac:

Personally I wouldn't bother with it. I don't know a lot about eGPUs, but that machine only has TB1, so you'd likely lose a lot of performance from your GPU right there.

Main System: Phobos

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8C/16T), ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 16GB G.SKILL Aegis DDR4 3000MHz, AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB (XFX), 960GB Crucial M500, 2TB Seagate BarraCuda, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations/macOS Catalina

Secondary System: York

Intel Core i7-2600 (4C/8T), ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3, 16GB GEIL Enhance Corsa DDR3 1600MHz, Zotac GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB, 240GB ADATA Ultimate SU650, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Older File Server: Yet to be named

Intel Pentium 4 HT (1C/2T), Intel D865GBF, 3GB DDR 400MHz, ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB (HIS), 80GB WD Caviar, 320GB Hitachi Deskstar, Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows Server 2003 R2
