I've been thinking about getting a pair of HD600s, but I'm kinda holding back as they are pricey and would require an amp for the 300ohm impedance rating.

I mostly listen to classical music so any help advice on this would be greatly appreciated :)

Also, any recommendations for amps or other pairs of headphones would be welcome too!

Sennheiser HD 598s are good for classical music. A lot cheaper, and they don't need an amp. Beyerdynamic DT-880 Pros are good too, but they're more expensive and need an amp (not as expensive as Sennheiser HD 600s). Even cheaper are Sony MDR-7506s. People have said they're really neutral sounding - and like the 598s, don't need amplifying. They're closed headphones, though.

Headphones that are marketed as studio monitors are usually what you want to look for because they're designed with neutral sound signatures, but this isn't always the case.

Le sigh, I must repeat myself - the 600/650 are very sensitive so they don't necessarily require an amp despite their impedance.

So they can be used with an ipod touch?

Most likely, but they're not built for travel.

So the HD600s can be powered well from onboard audio? Also, Will I need to get a DAC for my headphones? I'm currently using an Acer Aspire V5 notebook.

They'd definitely be fine with onboard. Were you to get a DAC, you would need an amp - that's just how audio works - though some "DAC" units come with a headphone amp.
