Hello all, I built my new pc shortly after Christmas but having not really found anything to push my GPU much, I haven't noticed a new sound. Whenever the fans of the GPU go above 80% this weird noise comes about and gets worse the faster it goes. There doesn't seem to be any wires touching. It's a msi rtx3080 trio. Thanks

While it's making the noise use your finger to push gently on the center of each of the fans, one at a time. That will let you determine which fan is making the noise. It could be any number of things, but it's definitely a fan.

Main System: Phobos

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8C/16T), ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 16GB G.SKILL Aegis DDR4 3000MHz, AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB (XFX), 960GB Crucial M500, 2TB Seagate BarraCuda, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations/macOS Catalina

Secondary System: York

Intel Core i7-2600 (4C/8T), ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3, 16GB GEIL Enhance Corsa DDR3 1600MHz, Zotac GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB, 240GB ADATA Ultimate SU650, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Older File Server: Yet to be named

Intel Pentium 4 HT (1C/2T), Intel D865GBF, 3GB DDR 400MHz, ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB (HIS), 80GB WD Caviar, 320GB Hitachi Deskstar, Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows Server 2003 R2

Thank you. It is the fan closest to the bracket (very left one)

Edit-

Sorry, misread the first post, thought you said 80c, rather than 80%.... still, reducing temps could still help.

-------‐-------------------

Ive read online that sometimes fans will make that mechanical rattle when they're at 100%.

If it only occurs when you get over 80c, then it's likely that's where your fans are set to go at 100%?

You could try making a custom fan curve in afterburner so that the card stays cooler and never needs to get up to that fan speed to begin with.

My 3070 luckily didn't seem to have this rattle, but it did regularly get very hot and very loud. (Reaching 80+ sometimes, but regularly between 78 and 80)

I simply set the curve to be 30%@30c, 60%@60c, 80%@80c and 100%@90c.

This brings temps down a lot on its own, but setting and undervolt of 1845@887mV has made a big improvement too.

Between these two things and adding better airflow to my case, my gpu now rarely gets over 60 and don't think ive seen it go over 65.

Make sure it isn't a fan cable vibrating.

I don't think you can do much about it.

I0m having same problem on Strix card.

You can RMA the card or you can set custom curve with MSI AB and set fan speed below 80 % if that fan sound makes you go crazy like me.

I haven't watched the video, and it is sometimes hard to differentiate fan sound from coilwhine.

Please do not take offence for my apparent confusion or rudeness,it's not intent me to be like that,it's just my BPD,be nice to me,and I'll return twice better,be rude and usually I get easly pissed of...I'll try to help anyone here,as long as it's something I dealt with, and even if you think I'm rude or not polite, forgive me,  it's not me it's my BPD.

Thanks for understanding.

So, I took the GPU off and looked at the wire inside. Nicely tucked in so not the issue. I did a bit more testing by apply the tinyest bit of pressure on the fan shroud and turns out something is vibrating. I think between the shroud and the radiators. It's a little crude but seems to have done the job, ive tucked a tiny piece of paper between the rad and the shroud and has stopped the vibrations for now atleast. Probably get some black marker to disguise it a little more unless someone knows a solution. spacer.png
