Hi all,

I'm building a new gaming system and I am trying to decide whether to keep trying to get a 3000 series card or whether to just buy a second hand RTX 20/ RX 5000 series card.

For some context, I don't have any system currently and am doing online school on an old iPad at the moment so I need something soon. The games I play the most are Battlefront 2, Warzone, Read Dead 2, Witcher, Hitman and GTA V and I plan on playing at 1440p high/ultra settings. If I get a 20/5000 series card I will most likely upgrade to a RTX 30 Super card if they come out in around a year or more likely the RTX 40 or RX 7000 series. My budget for the whole system is just under £1100 British Pounds so I'm looking for a GPU around £400-450. For that I could get an RTX 2060super or RTX 2070, or on team reds side a 5700/xt. Another option I am considering is getting  5600xt/ 2060 and upgrading some other components since I will most likely only have this card for around a year or two if its not the latest gen. In my budget the only next gen card I could potentially get ATM is the 3060 ti which occasionly comes in stock at MSRP on Currys but they are usually almost impossible to buy. The 3060 would probably be easier to find in my budget but I cant really wait another month.

Sorry for going on but just wanted to make sure I got everything down.

In Short my options are:

Rtx 2060 super/2070/5700(xt) and upgrade to RTX 40 series

RTX 2060/5600x, upgrade other components now and wait for 40 series.

It would be great if you could let me know what you think would be best.

Thanks

If you can get your hands on a RTX 3060, I would get that. If not, then probably getting a used 5700XT would be your best bet. The RTX 2060 and 2070 are very overpriced right now. I wouldn't hold off until the RTX 4000 Series coems out, as it is not coming any time soon. Nvidia can't manage to produce any RTX 3000 series cards, and yet have a 3080 20GB supposedly also to be released in the near future. The RTX 4000 will probably come out once supply has met the demand for the existing generation of cards.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 - 3900x @ 4.4GHz with a Custom Loop | MBO: ASUS Crosshair VI Extreme | RAM: 4x4GB Apacer 2666MHz overclocked to 3933MHz with OCZ Reaper HPC Heatsinks | GPU: PowerColor Red Devil 6900XT | SSDs: Intel 660P 512GB SSD and Intel 660P 1TB SSD | HDD: 2x WD Black 6TB and Seagate Backup Plus 8TB External Drive | PSU: Corsair RM1000i | Case: Cooler Master C700P Black Edition | Build Log: here

So get a 5700 and wait for 40 series?
