Ram question for upgrading

I just got a new laptop, DDR4 and it has 8GB in it so 1 open slot. If I got a 32GB with same speed and everything and installed it next to the 8GB... will that mess things up? I'm remembering something to this but I seem to be forgetting what it is exactly.

it may and may not work

if it does, it'll probably run in FLEX mode, which is first 16GB in dual channel, remaining 24GB in single channel mode

You also need to check the max ram capacity supported by your laptop if you haven't already.

GWTN156-3BK is the model. On crucial looking it up. I can't find it there.

I dug around a bit. Couldn't find a whole lot. Best safe bet would be to throw in another 8 gb ddr4 3200 which is what I saw on the internet.

 

I think it's safe to assume it could support up to 32 gb total but to be safe, if ya don't need more than 16 gigs, then the story ends here.

Yea there's 2 pretty nice builds on benchmark showing 32GB but in a pair of 2x16=32GB at 3200GHz. So that means they took out the 8GB stick in there now to do that and that kinda seems a shame to waste.

I have another Laptop which is my main gaming machine... It has 16GB weirdly on board... and 2 open bays for RAM DDR4... maybe I could transfer the the 8GB from the 1 to this one... So long as the speed matches it should be fine. <-- everyone agree? (I'm pretty rusty in building)

Update: I just went and checked my notes on my personal gaming laptop, it has 4 slots, 2 empty, 2 are Hynix HMA81GS6AFR8N-UH 2x8GB which looks to be 2400GHz. Low Hz b/c I have a Ryzen 7 2700 which I believe people said it couldn't run as high or something at that gen. Not that I'm complaining. I think my wife is going to have a stronger laptop than mine lol.
