PCIe lanes question

Soft Cell

Hi fellow enthusiasts, first of all my system looks like this:

- aurus x470 ultra gaming
- ryzen 5 2600 @ 4 Ghz
- 16G crucial ballistix @ 3200 Mhz
- MSI rtx 2070 Gaming Z

- 1 nvme SSD
- 1 Sata SSD
- 1 Sata HDD

i am in the process of benching and overclocking my gpu as i noticed that it is running at:
- PCIe v3.0 x16 (8.0 GT/s) @ x4 (2.5 GT/s) -not under load
- PCIe v3.0 x16 (8.0 GT/s) @ x4 (8 GT/s) - under load

this means i dont have enough pci lanes? my gpu is in the top slot and as far as i know my ryzen 5 2600 has 20 pcie lanes:

gpu : 16 lanes
NVME SSD : 4 Lanes

=20 lanes? or am i missing something wrong here?

thanks in advance friends, this could maybe explain why i have been dissapointed by the 2070 's performance.

https://imgur.com/a/Rdddo6D  --PCIe feature test: i see 3.3 GB/s bandwidth which should be about 15 if i am not mistaken?

Which slot do you put your GPU into? You should put your GPU into the top x16 slot (the nearest to the CPU).

I have ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). More info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autism_spectrum

I apologies if my comments or post offends you in any way, or if my rage got a little too far. I'll try my best to make my post as non-offensive as much as possible.

Go to BIOS and check if your lanes are distributed properly - some board allow you to split x16 lanes to more slots, for example 8+8, or 4+4+4+4. You want all 16 of them configured to fist slot.

It does, i have checked on product page.

Another thing, you can try to update bios to latest stable version.

Good luck, keep me posted.

That just shows while not under load it is not using all the bandwith, but when under load it is.

that is normal?

indeed, but the bandwidth should be 15Gb/s instead of 3 as seen in this 3Dmark pcie bench
