Professionally speaking from my years and years experience with HP products in a work environment, I wouldn't use the HP laptop if you gave it to me.

This is just my opinion of course, and others may have differing viewpoints, which is perfectly fine, but I'd go with the Asus laptop all day

I was looking at both of these laptops. I'd say the Omen. I ended up going with an MSI GF63 Thin but its a little out of this price point. The Omen, for what it is is good bang for your buck and I've seen people complain about cooling for the Asus. If you can't wait for next gen stuff or just can't afford it I'd absolutely recommend the HP Omen 15.

my only worries with the hp is the hinge would that be a real problem

The HP laptop comes with McAfee, and it's Intel (not a deal breaker by itself, but with the McAfee it's going to be worse). Also, I didn't see anything about the HP being an IPS display while the ASUS laptop was.
