Differences with Zen3 chipsets?

Just put an order on a 5600x, did so without looking into the chipsets because of how limited the nature of these things is currently. Wondering if someone can give me a run down on the various chipsets and what they entail to me as an end user.

If it matters im getting an ITX board.

A lot of these boards will need BIOS updates in order to get 5000 series CPUs to work. Some have CPU-less BIOS flashback features, others require an older CPU to be able to boot and update. Look for "Ryzen 5000 ready" markings or boards with BIOS flashback to avoid that.

Cool, You happen to know what the Chipset uplink and general purpose lanes would be exactly? I am guessing though the general purpose lanes wont really matter for me though since im going itx.

The CPU will do PCIE4 for the important stuff, like the primary M.2 storage slot and graphics card. The X570 has more PCIE4 through the actual motherboard chipset, but that's not really necessary unless you have a bunch of PCIE4 M.2 drives, which an ITX I'm guessing isn't your main concern.

Ryzen 5000 CPUs will have a total of 24 PCIe Gen4 lanes. Four out of the twenty-four are used for the interconnect to the motherboard chipset, leaving 20 lanes Gen 4.0 for other utilization. 16 lanes (PCIe x16) are intended for graphics cards, leaving 4 for your main M.2.

 

if you use other M.2 slots they will run off the motherboard chipset at PCIE3.
