New PC Build (Help)

NoxiousTed

I got all of my parts together finally today to build my PC. It was a little wonky. I've be researching and watching videos and learning how to do it for years and I finally felt confident enough to try it. Well, it was a bit of a struggle. Things are different when you don't have step by step help. The manuals I got were very vague and only showed small pictures and little writing. Basically, I thought I was all ready to go and powered this PC on. All I got was the light on my motherboard. No sounds at all. I'm hoping there isn't any problems and I'm just connecting things wrong like an idiot. I waited almost 2 weeks for these parts and it was stressful because I was excited.

Here is my PC list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Xh4M2V

I know there isn't a video card and that was because I will do light gaming until the 1650 super drops in price.

Welcome!

The fact that none of your fans are spinning seems like a power problem. This should probably be plugged in to complete the 24 pins going to the motherboard, unless for some odd reason your motherboard does not require it.

Also, careful with those front panel cables. They look very close to the front case fans and you don't want them getting caught up in anything spinning.

Be sure to QUOTE or TAG me in your reply so I see it!

Ah, I see what you mean. I fixed that. I had to tinker to get the small one in and then the big one in. It didn't go all the way in otherwise. Still had the same problem. My PSU says that you can test it. However, there is just a hole the wires come out of. The manual looks different than the PSU itself. I'm starting to think maybe my PSU is dead.

I totally missed it the first time, but in the "powered on" video you appear to only toggle on the PSU. What happens when you push the power button on the case?

I plug the PSU cord into the back and then hit the switch. I tried hitting the power button afterwards to no avail. It's like it's getting power, but not enough to power on.

Double-check the front panel connectors, specifically those for the power switch, are wired correctly. That's a common first-time build issue.

Oh man, I'm really stupid. The power button wasn't plugged in. I thought it was apart of the LEDs. What a real kicker. The thing is I'm unsure where to plug it in. It shows on the manual, but which pins?

PWRSW. 3rd and 4th from the left on the top row. If your connector is marked with a + or -, you can line up the polarity with - to GND. Regardless, it won't matter which way it goes onto those 2 pins.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

It's happened to MANY folks on their first build. Now you know for next time!

Did it boot up okay with that plugged in?

I plugged it in and I just get a click sound when I hit the power button. I can record it if that is helpful.

Did you plug a power cable into this one? The cable would be labled CPU on the end that would go here. Or be 2 connectors put together 4+4 pins.

I struggled to get those in because the cord was short, but yes those are plugged in. Unless of course they are out a little and I can't tell.

Can you post a picture of the motherboard in your computer? Showing as many connectors as you can?

The right half of your 8 pin connector on the top left isn't plugged in all the way. Also, it looks like it might be a 6+2. Double check that it is 4+4 or marked CPU on the connector.

This is what the pins and cord look like. It says CPU on it.

Your fine. The angle made it hard to tell if it was 4+4 or 8. Make sure both halves of the connector are all the way in and try again. If it still wont boot, look here for a LED to be lit up. It'll tell us where it's hanging up.

I plugged them in and did it all again and it just clicks. There are not any lights. Maybe because there are connectors I didn't put in? There are some LED ones with power button. I believed those were for the fans, but maybe I'm wrong.

Unless a PSU guru says differently. I'd figure out how to test that PSU without it being in the system to make sure it turns on or talking to Seasonic about an RMA. I've never tested a PSU out side of a system so I won't try to walk you through that. Just don't have experience with it. Sorry.

I'm going to wait and see what other people say. I believe it's either connection or PSU.
