What happens when... ... ...

Good day everyone,

This post will contain the following:

  • Social Media vs Social engineering
  • What we should expect vs reality.
  • What might be possible in future for the user.

Social Media vs Social engineering.

So here we are again in 2021 with companies wanting more and more control over our devices and apps we use. Ever tried to click no on those apps? Funny how they stop working then... The reality is any contract between a provider and a individual is for the most part none negotiable. We must agree, conform and allow or get out. Not to mention that social media can do a lot of harm. The sad truth is people literally do lose their livelihoods and even their lives. This is fact.

The problem is when said social services take control of a narrative and push it forward via suggestion. This is not new and large scale testing has occurred that was documented. But this post isn't about regurgitating the facts. It is about the reality that social engineering is effecting us to the point that employees demand access to these services. The goal is to determine employment. The second part is, if opinion doesn't sit well with popular opinion, as we all know this also have significant fall out. The question is, did we sign up for it? Well according to the terms and conditions "yes we did" But what was our goal? Was it to become a product or to reach out to friends and families? Was it to communicate or was it to become a target for advertisements?

Well we all know the answers to the above.

The reality is we should expect to be respected and that our "NO" has real meaning. We must expect to be informed of how our data is collected and used. Also who is reviewing it and for what purpose. We should expect and demand protection and the like for this imperative to our physical and mental safety.

Now for the section i am interested in:

Upon a search I realized that it is now possible to host websites from our phones. Yes our hand held device can now actually start to host webpages and small or even old computers can do the same. What does this mean? It means you can create an email list and send your friends links to a page that is exclusively managed by you. It means that you control every aspect of every post and what is allowed to be posted. Forum like functionality is factually possible and the list of "control" goes on  and on.

My point is to reject platforms and go back to a time where we controlled our own online activities with by actively moderating and controlling a webpage that lives only on the device you actually own or rent.

Why should we accept terms and conditions that give a company absolute control? Why should we click the agree button when we clearly don't agree to it?

Only you the reader can make this choice, and yes it is a choice. It is up to us to take the control back from companies and show them that not only are we live without them we can create new tech to replace them. The developer side of this is really interesting and i think in a little while it will be possible to create the tools but to simplify it to the point that a none tech person can set something up to this effect.

What do you think? Would you take the time to create and build a website that will live on your phone? Is this something you would consider?

thank you for reading

please take care.
