Hello fellow techies. Quick question as I am confused as anything regarding RAM for my 5600X build. I just a gamer, nothing else. Upgrading from my trusty 4770k and 8GB 2133Mhz RAM (other 3 RAMs lots have slowly failed 1 by 1). CL14 B Die RAM is extremely expensive over here in Australia, and I am not sure if its worth it? I have a few short listed but I am genuinely confused if I am paying fort something I will never notice in real life and should stick with a cheaper 3600 CL16 kit?

Gskill Ripjaw V 2x8GB  4000 15-16-16-36 1.5V AU$333 (low bin B die i believe)

Corsair Vengeance 2x8GB LPX 3600 14-16-16-36 1.45V  AU$319 (not B die I believe)

G Skill Trident Z Neo 2x8GB 3600 14-15-15-35 1.45V AU$349

Or should I just grab a 16GB (2x8) kit of 3600 16-19-19-39 kit 1.35V (Ripjaw V, Crucial Ballistix, Trident Z Neos) all AU$150-$200

Or any other peoples options.

Really appreciate everyone's help/suggestions

Samsung B dies were only really important with first and second gen Ryzen, which had very weak memory controllers. I would just save a buck and go with the Ripjaws 5 kit of memory, that's what one of my friends is running with his 3700X (different CPU, same memory controller). The FPS you would gain would be 1-2 at the most, and even then it depends on the game.

Yeah, that's usually considered the sweet spot with Ryzen if you aren't doing super crazy overclocking

Thanks mate. I was looking at 4000 kits as with the 5000 series they say the sweet spot is now 4000 once the Bios updates are in due to Infinity Fabrics 2000Mhz.

That will help and everything, but its been a couple months and most boards still have a hard time reaching 2000MHz on the infinity fabric. I wouldn't hold my breath for that update to come out any time soon.

faster memory past 3200-3600c16 should be the last investment in your build. the tiny difference between a 5600x and a 5800x would be a lot bigger than getting b die ram. or even getting a gpu with a factory overclock lol. also, having dual rank ram is a big deal for zen 2 regardless of speed, 3600c16 of 2x16gb or 4x8gb is as good as 3800c15 or whatever b die with 2x8gb. hardware unboxed had a great breakdown of all that with zen 3. in any case, the biggest gains for faster memory are better/more consistent frametimes. best case and in a very cpu heavy title at 1080p (hitman 2, cyberpunk, red dead 2, etc.) you'll get 5-10% higher average framerates over a cheap kit. but the lows can be 20-40% better in games that are sensitive to bandwidth and/or latency. all of that is dwarfed by better parts in any other area of the pc but once you've maxed out elsewhere, it's time to get b die :D

topics i need help on:

Spoiler

my "oops i bought intel right before zen 3 releases" build

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 (placeholder)

GPU: Gigabyte 980ti Xtreme (also placeholder), deshroud w/ generic 1200rpm 120mm fans x2, stock bios 130% power, no voltage offset: +70 core +400 mem

Memory: 2x16gb GSkill Trident Z RGB 3600C16, 14-15-30-288@1.45v

Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix X570-E Gaming

Cooler: Noctua NH-D15S w/ white chromax bling
OS Drive: Samsung PM981 1tb (OEM 970 Evo)

Storage Drive: XPG SX8200 Pro 2tb

Backup Storage: Seagate Barracuda Compute 4TB

PSU: Seasonic Prime Ultra Titanium 750W w/ black/white Cablemod extensions
Case: Fractal Design Meshify C Dark (to be replaced with a good case shortly)

basically everything was bought used off of reddit or here, only new component was the case. absolutely nutty deals for some of these parts, ill have to tally it all up once it's "done" :D

Thanks VeganJoy. I went with the 5600x vs the 5800x as there is literally no difference in gaming with a 3080 on a X34 Predator so wasn't worth the AU$400 price jump for me. Sounds like the same with the ram. I think I will go the Ripjaw V's 3600 C16 16GBx2. They are B die and sub A$400 for the kit. I have a MSI 3080 Gaming Trio on its way and also bought a 980 Pro SSD

TL;DR If you have deep pockets and a money tree in your back yard then get a kit of 4000MHz DDR4 if you don't have either then keep reading.

3200MHz then OC it to 3600 or higher, or get a decently priced kit of 3600 like this. G.Skill Ripjaws V 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16 Memory (F4-3600C16D-16GVKC) - PCPartPicker Sucks the price went up from $85 to $92 but eh still a good kit.

These are good too (I have the 3200 kit, easily OC's to 3666 but I am still testing further.

Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory (CMK16GX4M2B3200C16) - PCPartPicker

Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory (CMK16GX4M2D3600C18) - PCPartPicker

Just make sure whatever kit you get, the MCLK and FCLK are 1:1 I did latency testing and it proves this to be 100% true.

If you are dedicated to spending sometime on OCing you could try and get a 3200 - 3600 kit to run at 3800 or 4000 which I think 4000 is the max for 5000 series CPU's right?

I am considering a a second hand set (2x8gb) from a tech forum, G Skill Trident Royal 4400 16-19-19-39 for AU$280, he has managed to get it to 3800 14-14-14-28 with GDM off, or there is a set of Trident Z RGBs (4x8GB) for AU$250 16-19-19-39. Royals are B Die, those Tridents aren't I am pretty sure. Thoughts?
