yes they've been discontinued.. they're 2 generations old now with the 3000 and 5000 series releases.

the 2700x is discontinued now

 

between the R7 2700x and R5 3600 they both are good

the 2700x has more cores so for multi threaded tasks it will beat the 3600

 

but the 3600 has better single core performance so for gaming it will be better
