I have had my computer for a while now, and I was wondering if I maybe it is time to upgrade...

I am running: Gpu: asus strix 1070 oc

                      Cpu ryzen 5 1600x

                      Ram: corsair 8 g (1 stick)

                      Motherbord: asus strix b350f

When I play games on 1440p I usually get around 90 fps with high settings. I play games as rainbow, minecraft (with shaders), farcry and so on.

My prosessor is sitting att 30 % and my gpu around 90% when I play. The ram is at around 80%

I dont know if internet affects fps but my speed is at 50 mbps and resoinse of 5 milliseconds

ram. 1x8gb is pretty low at gaming. 1x8gb mroe and you will have dual channel 16 gig of memory instead of 8gb of single channel. MAke sure to buy the same 8gb stick as your current and put in one slot apart from the first stick.

I Use my knowledge as business owner and self taught technician aswell as an AI to help people. AI might be controversial but it actually works pretty well 90% of the time.

I thought about that and watched some videos. Linus said that 8 gig is enough for gaming. Maybe that was a old video.

Why do I have to use the same memmory?

Thanks for the fast reply btw

Keep your GTX 1070, the GPU market is awful at the moment. I would definitely upgrade the ram like SavageNeo suggested. Get any 16GB (2x8GB) 3200MHz CL16 kit so that you have fast and importantly dual channel ram. Alternatively you could get an identical ram stick to match the one you already have.

Another thing you could do is upgrade your Ryzen 1600X to a Ryzen 3600 or higher, I checked and your motherboard supports up to Ryzen 3000.

SPEC LIST:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X w/ NZXT Kraken Z73 360mm Liquid Cooler
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3090 FE
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (4 x 8GB) 5000MHz CL18
  • Motherboard: MSI MEG X570 Godlike
  • SSD: Samsung 980 Pro PCIe 4.0 1TB (x3)
  • PSU: Corsair AX1600i
  • Case: NZXT H710
  • Monitor: Alienware AW2521H 25inch 360Hz 1ms

My current ram is the "Corsair Vengeance LPX Black DDR4 2666MHz 8GB", is it not going to be very pricy to buy two new ramsticks. If I am going to upgrade my ram I think I would buy a identical to the one I already have.

Is "dual channel ram" just having two sticks or is it something else and why is it better to have two have two sticks?

Also why is many youtubers saying that you only need 8 gigs of ram for gaming?

Thanks for the fast replies, I am genuently blown away of the friendliness of this comunity!!

Dual channel is just having two sticks which lets the motherboard run the ram in dual channel mode. Its true that 8gb is good enough for many games if you close any chrome tabs and other programs but if you have a 1x8gb instead of a 2x4gb you will lose out on performance.

If you would like you can get an identical stick to your Corsair Vengeance LPX Black DDR4 2666MHz 8GB. Or you could get two new DDR4 8GB 3200MHz sticks they shouldn't be very expensive.

Could I not buy the two new DDR4 8GB 3200MHz sticks and install them with my old stick? Then I would get 24 GB of ram

Like other people have said, upgrade to 2 8gb sticks of ddr4 3200 mhz, , I'm unsure if it would be compatible with your own ram, I would say cpu would be the other thing to upgrade rn, your cpu isn't bad, but would benefit from being upgraded, and you could get a 3600/3600x for msrp pretty easily

As for your gpu, it is worth upgrading, but definitely not now, I would wait, at january 13th nvidia are expected to announce some new gpus, including some cheaper ones such as a 3060 (non ti) that will probably have the power of a 2070 super/2080 for only 300 dollars, so I would wait until then, and try and get one msrp, the gtx 1070 is still a pretty good card today, so I mean, there is no rush to upgrade, as 90 fps on 1440p on high settings is more than playable.

No dont run mismatched sticks together. Also I snipped a picture from your motherboard manual for the correct slots to install your ram in

what does this mean?

MSRP means Manafacturers Suggested Retail Price, Basically try and get one at the original retail price, as a lot of people on ebay are buying all the gpus up and selling them for like double the price because of stock issues
