The inclusion of a email confirmation field goes by the same logic of having a password confirmation field. On the chance that the user fills out the field incorrectly, the form gives them opportunity to correct it.

What..? You can copy and paste... Very few sites sites inhibit your ability to copy and paste.

thats still just stupid logic ... in worked for years without that. Any only very, very few sites have that annoying "feature" - coz it does hurt your conversion rate ...

Also some pages with double email at least have only 1 password field -- which follows the logic that - if we verified your email so carefully you can still reset your password if you mistyped 😉

But still .. only 1:1000 have both fields duplicated any its still unnecessary (*IMO*)
