CPU-Z properly sees all 32GB.

Wait...WHY did you get a B550 motherboard for a Ryzen 2700X ???

B550 boards DO NOT support 1000-series and 2000-series CPUs (they wont work properly with them).

It ONLY supports 3000-series and 5000-series CPUs.

Been scratching my head over the past few months i currently am running the following specs:

r7 2700x

msi b550 mag tomahawk

MSI Gtx 1660 super

32gb corsair vengance lpx ddr4 ram

When i put my RAM into slots 2 and 4 or 1 and 3 it shows half of my ram being detected in bios. but when it detects the ram in the slot. if i put it in lets say 3 and 4 it detects the 32gb of ram instead of just 16gb. If i go into task manager though it says 16gb allocated but the top right shows 32gb total im a bit confused, is the ram being properly utilized or is there some other problem wrong?

can you put them on slots 2 and 4 and check cpuz and what it has to say.

also as @-rascal- said b550 board does not officially support 2700x. Lucky that you even booted.

Yeah turns out thats the problem, if you look at cpu-z it just shows ryzen SOC,looks like ill have to upgrade come tax season. i was able to overclock my 2400mhz ram to 3200mhz at least while in single channel, so looks like i lucked out with that at least. I didnt realize they completely cut support for 2nd gen ryzen, usually amd is pretty good about supporting older CPU's, 2nd gen isnt even that old maybe what 2 years at least?

Zen 2 actually came out in summer 2019.

The B550 and A520 boards were late to arrive compared to X570.

I think they wanted to avoid the similar issue on B550 of "maybe Ryzen 5000-series support with B450 and X470 motherboards."

Because of this, if the user updates the BIOS to support Ryzen 5000-series on B450 / X470, they PERMENENTLY lose support for Ryzen 3000-series and older.

You got Mr. Bob Dole here...sees a new BIOS update their B450 board, updates it, now the Ryzen 3600 doesn't work now....and they need a new motherboard.

Instead of the "maybe" they might have just went completely "No" to Ryzen 2000-series and older, just to be on the safe side.

As far as...if the B550 chipset has any major difference compared to X570 that would for some reason make it not work with older Ryzen CPUs...I don't know.
