That error code has multiple causes. It often comes with additional explanation. Was there any?

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

If you want to tinker, you could try rebuilding your BCD (boot configuration data), but yes, it could be many things. Running SFC is also a solid thing to try.

Rebuild BCD: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-system/the-application-is-unable-to-start-correctly/bbb9c037-77b3-4fae-93b9-ded70f7f9a17

I'd take a peek here too, although would not recommend disabling DEP if something benign like VLC is prompting the code. Also tells you how to run SFC:

Technology advances at such a smooth rate as to render us unaware of major leaps forward. It is only when we look back on our memories that we see the true majesty of the world we have created.
