Close any window or program, and computer crashes.

So, weird one. 

 

tl;dr

running a pc with 2 video cards and 4 monitors, 2 per card. If i have a window open on any monitor, say youtube, and watch a few videos and press X to close window, 2 of the 4 screens turn black, or a shade of dark red/brown, and I cant do anything. Forced to reset or power cycle. The 2 screens that turn black are always from the same video card, but its not always the same 2 monitors that cause the crash. 

 

 

 

Recently fresh installed Win10 on this pc, including all appropriate drivers. This computer has been working fine forever on Win7, but recently upgraded to Win10. Everything seems to work fine almost all the time, but occasionally when closing windows it just crashes, 2 screens out of the 4 turn black and nothing.

 

Thinking along the lines of driver-side issue? I went to install nvidias most recent drivers, but geforce experience kept telling me there was no compatible hardware found, or the 'not compatible with this version of windows'. After manually searching for a driver for the GT630, i think it was from 2016 or even earlier, the PC at least boots and functions. 

 

PS the reason for the weird video cards is that this is Dad's PC. he doesn't game or anything, but uses 4 monitors for stock and day-trading. the various 'high performance' parts are spares i had from previous builds.
