I am currently looking at a system upgrade (MOBO, CPU, RAM, Cooler). I have decided three of these

  • Asus X570 ROG Crosshair VIII Hero Wi-Fi
  • AMD 5900x
  • Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 4

I was looking at RAM and was considering either 4000Mhz/C16 or 3600Mhz/C14, both roughly $550 (AUD). However according to the AMD website the 5900 only supports 3200Mhz.

  • Why are websites recommending 4000Mhz if it only supports 3200Mhz?
  • What is required to get them to work since it seems to be possible?
  • Would I be better getting a kit that is half the cost and upgrading to the 5950x?

If it helps I just got some trident royal 3200c14 that I was able to boot into windows at 4000 c16 really easily with 1.4v. I don’t know how stable it was though, I backed out when I saw it wasn’t 1:1.. I can try again later now that I’m a little more comfy in bios.
