This is with a 10600k, which admittedly has a slightly higher clockspeed and built in security mitigations than a stock locked 8700. (4.3ghz on the 8700 vs 4.5ghz on the 10600k, all core).

I'd say within a few % of this result is what you might expect on your 8700, maybe 10-15% given you're limited by memory speed as well.

I am going to consider this to be pretty much representative of what I'll see on my 5ghz 8700k once my 3080 comes in.

I would say you're probably fine in most games at 1440p.

Personally, unless you're going to be playing at 1080p, I'd just keep what you have.

You are not going to have terrible problems, but I would recommend getting a new CPU not long after getting the 3080.

See above.

In practice, it likely won't be a meaningful difference in most games at 1440p, especially not a $600 one.

Ok. The only thing is that it's a non k cpu.

Stock 10600k has 200 more mhz, slightly better thermals, more built in specter mitigations, and in this test, fast RAM. They are the same IPC.

Those are the differences, and with (or without, since we know a locked 8700 is faster than a Ryzen 5 2600 by a fair margin) enough to hit GPU limitation at 1440p.

Is that difference (if its even necessary) worth $300 (CPU) + $150 (motherboard) + $80 (RAM)?

Even assuming performance is as poor as the Ryzen 5 2600 (it isn't) is that worth it?

Since you already have the 8700 and 3080, what games are you playing, what resolution are you playing at, what refresh are you playing at, and is it reaching the performance that you want?

Are you having poor GPU utilization a lot?

Im playing at 1440p 144 fps. I play rdr2,The new cod,Snowrunner, Doom eternal. And i am looking forward to play Cyberpunk 2077 next week (if it acctually launches this time). In cod i have like 100% cpu all the time while gpu is at like 40 to 80%

RDR2 isn't going to hit high FPS either way. COD - it might, but i don't think the 8700k is going to be a problem for 144fps. CB2077 is likely going to be mostly GPU bound, especially if you turn on ray tracing. DLSS will help with framerate as well.

Try it first and see if it meets your expectations.

I saw a guy hitting like 190 fps with a better cpu then me in cod with better settings. Meanwhile im at 110

What resolution and what settings?

Slow memory can be a part of that, too.

I suppose if you're going to upgrade the RAM as stated above, you should redo the whole thing and keep that system together. Although I'd consider that more of an oversight on the original setup.

1440p max settings dlss performance. Wdym oversight? What do you mean with keep the system together?

I personally wouldn't have paired an 8700 with 2400mhz ram or a B360 or w/e, because you still can use faster memory and tweak power limits on a Z board -

If you're going to be buying new RAM, just buy all three and either retain the 8700/2400mhz/b360 and keep it as its own system or sell it off as a unit instead of parting it out

Alright i bought a 3600 mhz kit to pair with the z370 to see if it get's better. It's nearly impossible to get a hold of a 5600x so i just thought that i might as well hold off on it until it's in stock. By that time i will also have more cash:)

I bought theese:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0199STG76/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You'll probably do well with it. Make sure to go into cpu power and remove the power limits
