RAM Overclocking Issue

Go to solution Solved by Digideath,

It's because you're using all 4 ram slots. Some motherboards can do it, some cant as you've figured out. The trick is to find the fastest settings that are stable.

Go in to the bios

Switch on xmp

Goto the ram settings in advanced mode

You will see ram speed set at 3200mhz. Change that to 3000mhz

Then try again. See if its stable

Hi I'm a new PC Builder and needed a new rig for university however I also used this as an excuse to build a great gaming/work rig.

Ever since I upgraded from 16gb (8gbx2) to 32gb (8gbx4) I cannot overclock my RAM past 2166mhz, it worked fine at 3200mhz with the 2 8gb sticks so I don't know what the issue is, please can someone help me?

Here is my exact specs:

MB: Gigabyte X470 Aorus Gaming Wifi 5

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X (Defualt AMD Boost overclock activated in BIOS)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i RGB Platinum

RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB 32gb (8gbx4) DDR4 3200mhz CL-16

GPU: XFX Radeon RX590 FatBoy 8gb VRAM

PSU: Thermaltake Smart Pro RGB

Case Fans: Corsair LL120 x3 +CPU Cooler fans pulling in air from the front of the case then through the AIO fins and onto the motherboard

If anyone needs any additional information I'd be happy to retrieve what I can for you and after I began experiencing blue screen crashes (the same day I added my 2 extra 8gb sticks) I saved my CPU Manual overclock into the 2nd profile slot in my BIOS and reset it to factory defaults then re-seated the RAM Modules.

What exactly happens after you turn XMP on exit BIOS?

I'm not sure if I'll be able to help but this will 100% help others who could

once I load up a game or try to use blender windows will blue screen with various memory error codes and sometimes just general error codes but resetting BIOS to factory default stops all blue screens and I checked the settings and it set my ram clock multiplier to 21.66 (=2166mhz)

Ok I'll let you know if it doesn't become stable later tonight.

Yeah it's stable now and it kinda sucks that the MB doesn't specify how many slots it supports running at max speed.

Yeah they should but it's not all as bad as you think. You have 4 dimms at 3000mhz. Not much short of 3200mhz. That is still good. You will barely notice any different. About 3-4fps in game.
