Hi guys.

im so embarrassed, I’m a bc I’m computer science and I feel so naive about building this PC.

for the last 3 months I have watched hundreds of pc builds from many YouTube channels ltt, bitwit, d2d, optimum tech, gamer meld so I thought I could do this.

Everything started one when I was able to buy a ryzen 5900x with I thought this is it, I can build an amazing gaming/coding pc.

so I started picking parts

and I went with the following

ryzen 5900x, nzxt h1, Corsair vengeance ddr4 64g 3600mhz, asus rog Strix b550 I gaming.

When I got all my pieces Togheter I saw I couldn’t start my pc and I thought it was because the b550 bios update, and I couldn’t use the ez flash functionality.

something that caught my eye while debugging was that the led indicator was flashing on vram, and not on the cpu, but I thought maybe it won’t work until I fix the bios.

so I went to my pc store, and I ask the guys hey maybe you could help me update my bios, and they told me sureee is just that we need to quarantine your pc and you can have it two weeks.

hehe I’m starting to get frustrated. So went to pc picker and try to find what’s the cheapest ryzen y can get to update the bios on the b550 mb. I picked the ryzen 3100z and I ask the vendor hey I can buy this cpu I don’t mind pushing an extra 100 usd as long as it works, but if it doesn’t can i still return it.

and he was super nice, he told me I didn’t need it and show me on my mb box how it says I could use the ez flash to update the bios. At that point is when I tell him about the ddr indicator on the led panel.

he said that’s weird what ram are you using, and I took it out of the bag, ‘dude this is intel ram, you need ryzen ram....’

jesus...okok no biggie, give me a pair of those 32g Corsair vengeance 3200 that’s for ryzen right.

so I came home, two sets of ddr memory, two ryzen cpus, an h1 nzxt case, an asus rog Strix b550, I gaming motherboard.

i turn my pc, the orange led is gone, yeyyy.

the cpu led is gone, that’s when the  the white led.... apeas gpuuu.

i didn’t bought a gpu because I thought I could use this pc until I get my hands on a 3060,70, or amd 6000 gpu.... fuuuuuuu

i call asus and they told me the mb can only give you video if your cpu has a video chip and neither the 3100 or 5900 has it.

ok no biggie, I went to bestbuy and look for  gpus the and i see msi 1660, Radeon 5500 5600 and other smaller cards.

so I decided for the 5600 is only 300 usd more, maybe I can use this card for some

time. I just want to use my pc.

i came home, put the cpu in the case.

ddr led good, cpu indicator good, cpu indicator good. All green we have videooo.

jump into the bios read my memory stick, I now have the version 1202 or something like that coool, time two switch cpus.

at this point I feel like Vince manmahon gif, everything’s going great I’m going to do it.

i restart my pc 12 cores mother Rucker yeasass.

ok so now I just need to install my os and start gaming.

but guess what I decided to install arch Linux because, yeah fuck it. I hate windows. And I saw a lot of ltt videos that says that Linux is good now.

i open YouTube video install ark, restart my pc, enter my username and password.

and it fucking crashes, 20 seconds in my first boot crashes.

i keep restarting the pc, and I just can’t use it, maybe arch doesn’t have good support for amd cards.... damn.

ok Anthony says popOS and manjaro have good support.

After hours of restarting, because the pc crashes before/during/ and after the installation

But nothing helps.

ok I’m done, I just going to install windows now and just check if at least there it can run smoothly.

but when I try to install it, it doesn’t detect my hard drive and ask me to insert a device with the drivers hehehehe I tried go format the vdd with ntfs and nada....

fuck what do I do now.

ok one more try maybe Ubuntu budgie, that lasted a little longer but still crashe.

I’m just about to give up and try to return the parts if I can.

but I just don’t know I feel I’m so close, this shouldn’t be that hard right ??

sometimes I think, maybe the cpu is heating do I need to put liquid on the radiator.... are the pumps connected In the right connectors.

do I get a different cpu card???

I honestly don’t even know what to do next

im desperate and hope I can find some help xD,

btw I live in Oakland if someone is nearby and want to help, or a Skype call could work too.

btw arch Linux in shell mode, ( non visual ) worked fine.

What version of Windows were you trying to install? You do know that Windows 7 does not have support for these modern mobos?

1) There's not really any such thing as "Ryzen RAM" these days. Back when Ryzen first launched it was VERY picky about what RAM it would use and it was recommended to use only Samsung B Die RAM however its gotten better now and neither Ryzen 3000 or 5000 series CPUs care about what RAM you have.

2) Installing Arch is not easy. I consider myself to be of average skill with Linux and tackling Arch isn't something I'd ever try to do. Unless things have changed installation is done by command line, each individual step has to be performed manually by the user and if you get one step wrong the entire thing falls flat. Even after installation Arch doesn't just "work", you then have to install packages manually to make it actually do something useful. Arch is designed for Linux experts, it installs as barebones as possible to let users customise it exactly as they want.

3) The HDD not showing up could be something very simple. Is it an NVMe, SATA SSD or SATA mechanical? Have you tried plugging it in to a different SATA port? Are you sure everything is plugged in properly? Did you create a new Windows installer yourself or are you using an old version?

4) You do have a CPU cooler fitted, right? If you don't have one at all then STOP and install the one that came with your CPU. Remember almost all modern BIOSes will report CPU temps pretty accurately.

Main Rig:-

Ryzen 7 3800X | Asus ROG Strix X570-F Gaming | 16GB Team Group Dark Pro 3600Mhz | Corsair MP600 1TB PCIe Gen 4 | Sapphire 5700 XT Pulse | Corsair H115i Platinum | WD Black 1TB | WD Green 4TB | EVGA SuperNOVA G3 650W | Asus TUF GT501 | Samsung C27HG70 1440p 144hz HDR FreeSync 2 | Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS |

Server:-

Intel NUC running Server 2019 + Synology DSM218+ with 2 x 4TB Toshiba NAS Ready HDDs (RAID0)

I tried to install windows 10, it’s an nvme firecuda 512 2tb, the cooler fits is the pump from the h1 case.

altough i didn’t put any liquid to it I was googling if it was needed.

The cpu temp For the ryzen 3100 was at 31C and for the 5900x was over 50C they both crash

Memory in slots A2 and B2

If installed correctly, clear cmos, run the system at defaults.

Which sticks? The 32GB ones? Part number?

Quote

32g Corsair vengeance 3200

There. Don't enable XMP until after you've installed windows drivers and in particular the chipset driver.

I’m trying fresh install with windows.

it doesn’t recognize any of my hard drives.

im going to try to install on an ssd, at least until I see the pc running.

creating a win10 installation media right now.

I read that many guys have problems installing win on an nvme, I already set csm to ‘disabled’ and secure boot to ‘other os’,

And  set nvme to raid mode, without success.
