I have a Noctua NF-A14 that is being used as an exhaust fan on the top of my Define R4, and it won't spin. Every now and then it will spin very shortly, but only a very small amount (like an 1/8 of a rotation) then dies back down. It just keeps doing this. It is also making a noise whenever it does this.

If necessary, I have an ASUS P9X79 WS, and the fan in plugged into the Channel 4 fan header on the top right of the board near the 24-pin.

EDIT: Also not getting any RPM readings in AI Suite.

I believe it may be dead..

Do any other fans work in the channel 4 header?

Hope I could help!

Damn, I literally just finished building this computer like 2ish weeks ago.

I'll check right now and get back to you.

One thing I'd like to note is that this same thing happened to me last night. But it was working again after I unplugged the computer, unplugged the fan, plugged the fan back in, and plugged the computer back in. Could it be something to do with power?

What power supply do you have in your rig?

Hope I could help!

I'm using the Corsair AX760i.

And I put a different fan in and the same thing happened to it, worked the first time then restarted and it wouldn't spin.

I have not tried channel 2 or 3 headers, but I shall do that right now.

Alright, so I tried other fans, and they all worked but only after I flipped the power switch on the PSU off and back on. Put the original fan back and the same thing is happening.

Must be an issue with the fan... May have to RMA :/

I meant same thing as in it works after I turn the PSU off and back on, haha, my bad on not being more specific.

EDIT: Is the self-test light on the AX760i always supposed to be on?

Have you clicked the self check button? If so what were the results?

Hope I could help!

The PSU just makes a click noise and nothing happens.

EDIT: just tried spinning the fan with my hand and it started spinning up now. So it's just not getting enough power or? I even tried it with a different fan and the same thing is happening. So I'm thinking maybe the little fan switch thing on the motherboard needs to be swapped.

EDIT: played around with the fan channel selector and now the fan is working perfectly! And before my two exhaust fans were only spinning around 350-400 rpm when working, now they're spinning at 750-850 rpm!
