Having thoughts on upgrading my CPU currently from Ryzen 5 3600 to a possible Ryzen 9 series. But was wondering could I keep my motherboard and ram. My motherboard Asus TUF Gaming B450 and Ram 4 x 8gb 3600mhz.

-650w Corsair PSU

-RTX 2070 Super 8gb

-Samsung evo 500gb and 1tb ssd

-I also run 3 monitors 2 144hz and 1 240hz

if you are going ryzen 9 then there may be a chance you would want to upgrade that psu.

your motherboard might need a bios update if you mean "Ryzen 9" as in ryzen 9 5900x or 5950x

PC specs:

Ryzen 9 3900X overclocked to 4.3-4.4 GHz

Corsair H100i platinum

32 GB Trident Z RGB 3200 MHz 14-14-14-34

RTX 2060

MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge wifi

NZXT H510

Samsung 860 EVO 500GB

2 TB WD hard drive

Corsair RM 750 Watt

ASUS ROG PG248Q

Razer Ornata Chroma

Razer Firefly

Razer Deathadder 2013

Logitech G935 Wireless

most of the tuf b450s won't play well with 12+ cores, as per the stickied vrm tier list:

if you're considering a zen 3 cpu, you'd also need a bios update, and i'm not sure if asus has released a beta bios for b450s yet.

topics i need help on:

Spoiler

my "oops i bought intel right before zen 3 releases" build

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 (placeholder)

GPU: Gigabyte 980ti Xtreme (also placeholder), deshroud w/ generic 1200rpm 120mm fans x2, stock bios 130% power, no voltage offset: +70 core +400 mem

Memory: 2x16gb GSkill Trident Z RGB 3600C16, 14-15-30-288@1.45v

Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix X570-E Gaming

Cooler: Noctua NH-D15S w/ white chromax bling
OS Drive: Samsung PM981 1tb (OEM 970 Evo)

Storage Drive: XPG SX8200 Pro 2tb

Backup Storage: Seagate Barracuda Compute 4TB

PSU: Seasonic Prime Ultra Titanium 750W w/ black/white Cablemod extensions
Case: Fractal Design Meshify C Dark (to be replaced with a good case shortly)

basically everything was bought used off of reddit or here, only new component was the case. absolutely nutty deals for some of these parts, ill have to tally it all up once it's "done" :D

was thinking more of the lines on a Ryzen 9 3900x or Ryzen 7 3800x, which says is compatible with my motherboard. Would I really need to upgrade my PSU I feel like 650 is good and this one is like 5 months old

Ok will have to look into it then was thinking of a Ryzen 9 3900x or Ryzen 7 3800x was says it is compatible with my motherboard, but like you said it has 12 or 8 cores so whether it would run well is another thing

most of the msi b450s have good enough vrms, and its a possibility that with good airflow that you can keep the temps in check with the 3900x on the tuf b450. not ideal but possible and worth trying
