RX 580 power supply

hello, happy to join the community, and greatful for all the tips you give,

for the subject, i bought a RX 580 nitro + 8gb, which uses a 8+6 pins, my power supply has only a 6 pin cable, i tried to connect only the 6 pins one, but the card didn't work, is there any solution to work it out ??

And when i connected the 6 pins one to the 8 pin connector it worked, but i didn't work with it much cuz i don't know the circumstances, so the question is : is it harmful for the GPU or not??
