Ryzen 9 memory timings

I have a R9 3900x with two sticks of 16GB dual side modules. Problem is that I got RAM with CAS latency of 19, though it runs at CAS 20 regardless of what I do in the BIOS. It's G.Skill Sniper X 3600. It's got the Hynix chips on it, and after running the Ryzen DRAM tool, I determined that this Memory cannot be tuned. At least not using the DRAM tool. Stock latencies are 19 20 20 40, and the DRAM tool spit out timings like 16 16 19 36. I attempted to use the DRAM tool's timings, but no boot... So since I'm getting a second rig, and this second rig will get my 3900x while I drop a 5900x in the gaming/rendering system, I also have the 'opportunity' to get new memory for the main system (I can switch what I have over with the 3900x, in other words).

 

So, should I go for some 3600 mhz CAS 16 memory, or should I look into something else? I'm sticking with 16GB X2 sticks.

 

Ideas, suggestions, experiences?

You need to change the gear down mode setting for odd CAS.

I did change the gear down mode... I think this RAM is fine at 3600, but the chips aren't high enough quality to support better timings. I think that getting memory with better timings to start off with will be more beneficial than trying to tweak weak chips.

 

And thanks for the suggestion, those sticks look good. I'll drop 'em on my wishlist, and as soon as I can get the 5900x and a B550 board for the 3900x, those should be in the mail at the same time.

Prices for RAM change pretty frequently. You should check again when you are about to pull the trigger, there could be a better option at that time.

Yeah, that's the plan. It's also how I ended up with the Sniper X. I wasn't overly concerned about the performance, I figured if I wasn't satisfied with it, I could get something faster when I go from 3900x to 5900x.
