Can of V spilled on HP Pavillion while I was asleep. Normally I'd just consider that the end of it, but when I woke up, not yet realising what had happened, the laptop was still on and working. However some time later, discord froze and blocked the screen, the computer didn't freeze, the cusor still moved, and I turned it off and back on, at which point i realised what happened. It posted, loaded up to the login screen for a second before blue screening. I restarted, ran startup repair to reinstall windows, which it successfully completed, got its swirling dots swirling for about 30 seconds, before blue screening again.

My question is, what is going on here? I'd expect the laptop to either be toast or working, not fine doing literally anything for an unlimited amount of time until it reaches the login screen.

Depends on what got hit. Put in a bag of rice for some days up to a week and let it dry. Fire it up after that and see what is dead.

Please do not put your electronic devices in a bag of rice.

Best thing would be to clean it with isopropal alcohol and then let it dry.

And if you don't want to open the machine up and just let it dry, then at least put it on a warm, well lit and dry place and wait for at least 3 days.

This actually happened about a month ago, it was 6 years old, weighed a ton and was going to be replaced soon anyway. More interested in the why than in the solution, partially because it uses that secure case which requires removing about a million screws and keyboards to open.
