I am not planning to purchase one in the near future but I would like to get one eventually. Does anybody know what a good NAS would be? Best bang for my buck? Thanks!

Depending on if you want a 2,4,8 bay either Qnap or Synology.

Probably a 4 bay, how are WD's?

I would say WD NAS's are O.K. Probably most bank for your buck NAS. Though the WD doesn't give you the flexibility as the Qnap and Synology Nas.

For instance WD Nas can only do Raid 1 & 5 . Not JBOD, raid 0 etc.

What I do like about the WD Nas is that it runs Windows Server 2008, which is really easy to setup.

Alright good to know, I do want the raid flexibility though.

I built a little home server cost me £250 (about 400 dollars) with a pentium g3220, a nice msi motherboard that supports raid 0,1,5,10 and i plan to have 4 2tb drives in raid 10, the board i bought supports 6 drives

then use WHS or freenas or something?

better performance that most NAS boxes, more flexability, and if a part fails its much easier to get a replacment psu/board/drive etc

but Qnap are really nice if you go NAS like the TS - 410

If you want a pre-built box go with Qnap or Synology.

You can however build your own for fairly cheap using FreeNAS as the OS.
