Upgrading my from GTX 970; Should I go for a 2070 (non-super) or wait/save up for a 3070/3060?

thesmuggley

I currently have a GTX 970/i5 4690k and am upgrading my whole system to an ryzen 3600x and some new(er) GPU. I have a friend that is willing to sell me his 2070 non-super for $340, but in the current GPU climate I'm wondering if I should buy the 2070 (for what seems to be a good price), or wait for a 3060 in Jan/Feb or just splurge on the 3070 when it becomes possible. I know there's plenty of AMD options but I'm trying to keep it in the Nvidia family (no good reason otherwise tho). Thx!

Might be better to wait for either price drops on the RTX 2000's or the RTX 3060 (you're going to be in a world of hurt to get it though)

340$ for a non-super, used 2070 doesn't seem a good price imho..

is it still under warranty at least?

Consider that getting a 3070/60 is 2 to 3 months at best, unless you are extremely lucky and / or work for a retailer, import company or simply are Jensen Huang

I've just done a U-turn after totally missing the rtx3000 launch and more recently getting burned by the Ryzen 5000 launch. My crystal ball is telling me the RX6800/900XT launch wont be any better and as JoJo_O says above I honestly think we're a number of months away from a normal consumer being able to get their hands on any new GPU unless extremely lucky.

I've decided to upgrade my RX570 to a 5700xt and run with that until summer next year when the dust has settled and I can make a more informed (and physically possible) purchase!

$340

not worth it. rtx 3070 is 500$ and ive seen people selling 2080 super at 370-420$. 2070 super usually goes at 300-340$.
