Hi guys. The front ports for my audio and microphone jack recently broke, I'm not entirely sure how.. the headset isn't recognised when I plug it in the front. I tried plugging it in around the back, and the audio works there, but the mic doesn't - so I'm assuming the microphone is broken. Therefore I thought I'd buy a new headset for a working microphone. I also thought buying a soundcard would be a worthwhile investment as I listen to music A LOT and it would really benefit me, coming from the current setup of onboard audio. I'd be alternating between using my headset and my speakers, it really depends what mood I'm in and the time of day (so I don't disturb others).

Currently I use: Logitech speakers (don't know what model); the Creative Fatality Analog headset and the M4N68T-M-LE-V2 motherboard.

  • Optimal Budget (Including currency): Around £60
  • Aim - are you gaming? Skype? General listening? Music production?: Skype, gaming, and music.
  • What style would you like? Closed (completely encase the ear, open (sit on the ear) or buds (go into the ear): I'd rather they were around the ear.
  • Jack size/Connection Type - Do you need 3.5mm (1/8") or 6.3mm (1/4") or even USB - Keep in mind adapters are offered and sometimes included with headphones: Well USB or 3.5mm, I'd rather 3.5mm to utilize the new soundcard - if I get one. I was looking at the Turtlebeach X12's, and they're USB powered but also use 3.5mm audo and mic connections.
  • Audio taste/genres - Do you want something with an emphasis on bass or something flatter?: I'm not really looking at getting a headset that would benefit me in the gaming environment, such as hearing footsteps or having surround sound, but I listen to music a lot. All kinds of music, from the 60s to the 80s to modern day dubstep, pop, and rock.
  • Do you plan to use a sound card?: If someone can suggest one, yes.
  • Microphone required? Do you want a headset based one or an external one?: Microphone attached to the headphones, so a headset. I do have a Blue Snowball, but I'd also like to have a headset for when I just want to kick back and chat whilst gaming. There's something about a desktop microphone that just leaves me feeling a bit uncomfortable and detached from the game. That being said, I don't want a really poor quality microphone that's been added to a pair of headphones to make it a headset. The microphone should be of decent quality, I don't want people complaining when I'm talking.

A cool feature I found out about is the chatboost function provided by Turtlebeach, on a few of their headsets. It means you can turn up the volume of chat: whether it be Skype, Ventrilo, or Teamspeak, in case the game or video you're watching gets too loud. I think that's really cool and would be hugely beneficial to me, considering I chat and game a lot.

Any advice or help you can give will be GREATLY appreciated, sometimes reviews and the internet can be a little overwhelming, so it'll be nice to finally have some clarity on the issue.  ;)

Its in your sound properties under the recording tab. You'll see it grayed out if it's turned off

It shows it's connected, but when I tested it on Audacity and Skype it didn't work.

If you have win7, when you talk into the mic it should move the activity meter on the right of the device if it's working.

Do you have any other mics to try? Try talking into some headphones and see if that works if you don't.

It appears that he has the Turtlebeach PX21's, which doesn't have an analog mic connecter, it uses USB.. so I can't test that. However I do really like the headphones, because of the ability to change the music, chat, and game volume levels on the fly. I imagine I'll be purchasing a pair of PX21's or X12's, thanks for the help though guys. :)

I would not recommend these .. some good Sennheiser, AKG, Beyerdynamic or Bose headphones would be a much better choice.

Like I said, it's a headset that I'm looking to buy. Plus headphones from those brands are pretty much out of my budget.

Most of those are fine, but bose? No.

Onto topic, could you push that budget up a smidge? Most of the juicy headphones that are worth the price start ~100£. If you're really set on that low budget and a *shudders* headset just get a siberia v2, sounds meh. Would not recommend that route though.

Cheers,

EDIT:

Modmic?

I think she's in the uk (as am I) and it's pretty hard to get them around here.
