Budget (including currency): £800

Country: United Kingdom

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Cyberpunk (High End), WOW as other example

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I am looking at upgrading my current rig and I currrently have a ryzen 7 1700x and a GTX 1080. + 16gb of 3200mhz Ram.

I think I want to keep the 1080 because it is still a fairly solid card. When it comes to the Motherboard + Processor I want to stick AMD probably Zen 3.

If someone could mkae some suggestions for what might be best for the following parts:

  • Motherboard
  • Processor
  • Case
  • Cooling

I currently have a 550w Corsair PSU is it worthwhile upgrading it or because the TDP might go down with the new processor is it sufficient.

I already have plenty of storage but I might consider getting an NVME as a boot drive. It is currently on a Crucial SSD.

Many thanks for any help you guys can provide.

Wouldn't go 6c/12t for $300.  Tech Deals makes a good argument.  I'd go 3600 for $180-$200.  It's a better balance with the 1080.

Probably keep the motherboard you have and drop it on.  What motherboard are you using?

B350 PC mate. I am looking at upgrading the board for future proofing and also budget is not the main concern so I am happy to spend a bit more if it gets me an extra year or two so I would consider the upgrade to the 5800x. Rather than go Zen 2.

exactly. B350 is still supported (i think) but the upgraded speeds will be noticed on B550

Also Zen 3 is insane, so I understand the temptation to go for it, as I would too if I were in need of an upgrade.
