So I have a HDD that one day kept my PC form booting. I found the drive unplugged it and my pc worked fine. I tried hot swapping it back in once the system had booted and it doesn’t crash the system but just keeps any applications even disk management form opening at all.  You can’t access the drive data at all it just locks everything up. I have no idea what to even try at this point.

Well if the drive didn’t have anything I needed on it I would try not plugging it in.  There’s an old joke about that that starts with “a man went to the doctor and said ‘doctor doctor it hurts when I do this..’”

In a perhaps less useless vein though:

It’s not impossible the thing has failed badly.

is the hard drive old?
Is there perhaps another windows instal on this other drive? Or perhaps the remains of one?
Have you tried an OS other than windows?

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.
