How do I setup File Sharing

Hey guys, 

 

I'm trying to setup windows file sharing so that I can copy files between my Laptop and Desktop. 

 

Both are connected by ethernet.

 

I have tried various guides online but none seem to work.

 

I have tried joining the same workgroup but it still doesn't work.

 

I have also turned off password-protection and turned on file sharing in public, private and guest networks.

 

I would really appreciate if someone could guide me because it's driving me nuts

Steps

 

1. Create a user and password on the device you want to access.
2. Go into file explorer, navigate to the folder you want to share
3. Select, and Right click the folder... choose "give access to" and select the user you created in step 1.
4. Go onto the device you want to access FROM, you should now be able to access the folder on the other device using IP address/folder name - it should ask you for the password.
