Acer XB271HU is getting dimmer. Is replacing the panel worth it?

Tanaz
Go to solution Solved by Tanaz,

Okay. I'm a dumbass. Electricity cut out the other day and my Alienware's settings reset and it was sitting at 100%. When I lowered it to 70% the difference is nowhere near as stark as it was until now. I will mark this as a solution and hide somewhere to stew in my shame.

I've owned the XB271HU since 2016 and slowly but surely it seems to have gotten dimmer. I've noticed that especially when I bought a second and a third monitor and it looks quite a lot dimmer than both my Alienware and Samsung to the point where  at 100% brightness it's basically as bright as the other two monitors at 65%. I'm not sure how much of its original brightness it has lost considering it's 350nits compared to the other two at 400 but I don't think those 50nits difference account for 35% brightness delta.

Anyways I'm just debating on whether or not I should even bother replacing the panel because it's difficult to find trustworthy sellers on websites like aliexpress and alibaba and I might get stuck with a second hand panel after waiting for  40-60 days just to get the same result. I've asked for a quote from one of the main display distributors but I'm guessing they won't be too happy with selling a quantity of 1 as they work with large orders most of the time.

At what price is the panel just not worth it and is there even a point in reinvesting in the monitor or should I just bin it and buy a new one?

If there was I wouldn't even be posting this topic. Tech stores don't have expensive monitors on display where I live and I don't know anyone else with the same monitor. That's the ridiculous part - I'm not even sure it's not as bright as it's actually supposed to be. Maybe someone on here with that model can give their input on the overall monitor brightness.

fair enough, i keep mine really low cause its really fuckin bright lol. like 15% maybe. but i do that with every monitor, its pretty normal for brightness. acer's warranty is only 3 years, right?

Oh it's out of warranty 100%. The panel itself has never been particularly impressive. Numerous people including me have had issues with temporary image retention and other weird shit. I have a feeling I'm going to get a quote for ~250$ and import tax + delivery will be another ~120$ and at that point I might as well save up for a new one

yeah thats like half the cost of the monitor, if it was 100 bucks and a guaranteed fix thatd be about where i'd draw the line. as for the panel itself, i havent noticed any problems with mine. if it wasnt for the strictly gsync thing i'd be keeping it for a while
