Is it possible for GPUs to make two different coil whine sounds? I know of one that is surely made by the GPU as it happens with high framerates (80+ or so) but I am not sure if this second buzzing sound is made by the GPU or the PSU underneath it. And it is not the GPU's fans as they were off while I was checking it out.

Yea probably from both of those. Mine are buzzing too. But not too audible fortunately.

If I set maximum performance mode for RDR2 then it buzzes in gameplay, not in the menu (VSync is on). For Starbound (also with VSync on), maximum performance mode does not buzz in the menu and neither in gameplay. I need to figure out if this is the PSU or GPU.

That's simple then. It buzzes at RDR2 at gameplay 'cause the GPU as well as the PSU that's powering it are doing hard work to push fps (demanding game). Why it didn't buzz at main menu??? It's because it didn't had to do any graphical processing. In the case of Starbound it's a 2D game isn't it??? and with vsync on, it didn't had to any 3D graphical processing at all (low demanding game).

Ok but if I set maximum performance mode for Fortnite (a more demanding game than Starbound) then I still do not hear the sound that RDR2 produces.

VSync on eh..????? Fortnite is much much lower demanding game than RDR2 and with Vsync on, it doesn't struggle or work as hard as on RDR2

What's your PC specs anyway?

Also everything in-game is set to low. If I turn VSync off, then I hear the typical high pitched coil whine sound. If I turn it back on, I only hear that buzzing sound.

Let me explain the difference between RDR2 and Fortnite with Vsync on.

First what Vsync does???

Vsync basically cap your fps to what your monitor refresh rate or hertz is. I'm gonna assume it's 60hz. So the GPU only needs to render 60 fps and not much more

So in Fortnite because it's a low demanding tittle it doesn't need to work as hard to render 60 fps. While in RDR2 a high demanding tittle, to even render 60 fps the card needs to work really hard hence the need for more power from the psu hence the coil whine.

I've never ever in any game experienced coil whine with VSync on. If the game was resource intensive then it only made the fans spin faster. No matter the GPU or game. I don't know if it is the PSU's fault or GPU.

Buzzing are most probably caused by psu because of their inductor are much bigger than the graphics card. So they make a lower frequency sound waves.

And yea looks like it checks out too. Vsync off graphics card do more work, smaller inductor making a higher frequency (high pitch) sound waves.

I've ordered a new PSU (Corsair RM650x) as a replacement for the one I currently have because the fan is slightly rattling (a different issue). I wish it was the PSU that is at fault but I am afraid it's the GPU.
