Hi all, so about a month ago I purchased a 4770k, and finally got around to wanting to OC it, i am planning on doing it over the weekend, as I will be able to let me system be for a while. Im new to this, and want advice on what software to use, currently I use Core Temp 1.0 RC6, and RealTemp 3.70 for monitoring and used the Intel diagnostics tool for stress test to check the system, and the test only runs a few minutes so I need something else, Im mostly looking for cheap ro free software because I wont be over clocking again any time soon. So my first question how many volts is the reccomended to use, should I got for 70c or 75c under full load, is 24 hours enough for a stress test, and any other information I should know for a first time OverClocker, all I have done so far is watch Linuses guide. Im also planning to get the Intel Overclockers protection plan, as soon as I see that my cpu can actually oc and i did not loose the lottery. Please post download links for any reccomended software. Sorry for the paragraph but I need this information, thank you all in advance.

P.S. forgot to mention, im using a corsair h100i, corsair sp120 quesit fans in push, in a 750d case, my mobo is the sniper 5 from gigabyte, memory is corsair vengence pro 2133mhz, lastly dont know if needed but using a gtx 780 ti windforce OC version.

Use Aida 64 for the stress test. Don't use Prime 95 because it calls for too much voltage from Haswell and gives false results. You shouldnt need more than 1.26v to get to 4.5Ghz if your CPU will allow it. 70-75 is fien either way.

Okay, so I will get the 30 day trial, its the same as buying right, because I dont want to spend 40 bucks for a one time use?

Yea It just has a water mark on the graph but it works the same.

Okay cool, will 24 hours be enough for the stress test, and I was hopeing to get 4.1-4.3, what do you think will teh voltage be? And how much are we lloking here for reduced life span?

Tops you will need no more than 1.2v. The life span won't be reduced. I have never tested my overclocks for 24h. Usually 2 hours then I'll play different games for a few hours then I'll know it's good.

Im doing aida64 with the stock speeds, and its only been two minutes but one core jumped to 73c is that normal on stock?

What cooler do you have?

Edit: Oh H100i, yea that's a bit high.

Should I still proceed with trying to get 4.1-4.2ghz or just leave it as is?

Its really bouncing around but for the most part doesnt jump that high stay at around 67c, some times jumping to 70c, but i will let is it run another hour i guess, also i am using sportify, and and youtube, and this at the same time, should switchg to ipad for this probably?

You can probably get that with only a minor voltage bump to 1.15v

Thats what I was thinking to try 1.15v, Ill give it a go, and see what happens.

Just jumped to 74 after ten minutes.

Nothing, you will just blue screen

Okay so I left all settings alone, but turned it up to 4ghz it booted, and runs the benchmarks, currently 3 minutes in, aida64 pulls 1.164v temps are maxing out at 80c so far, is this bad, normal, or good?

Seems fine, I don't know why your temps are so high though.

So corsair link doesnt wanna work and I cant turn up the fans to perfomance that might be why, or could it be I didn't tighten the cooler enough, i only finger tothened didnt use a screw driver for the h100i?

Corsair link is terrible and buggy and crashes sadly. Last night I re applied my thermal paste on my H100i and I realised, that because I didn't evenly tighten the block down in a criss-cross pattern that the block was only half on my CPU increasing temps by 10-15c

Maybe, My MX-4 made a difference although I don't think it was because the Corsair stuff is particularly bad.

Sorry I didn't queit understand is the corsair stuff bad, or not particully bad?
