Hi guys, been folding every day and night on my desktop the last couple weeks, but I'm having trouble getting OpenCL shit to work on my server. It's now running Arch, and it has an R7 370. AMDGPU is enabled and running, and I've tried both OpenCL-AMD and OpenCL-Mesa to no avail. I've attempted to have F@H automatically pick a GPU by setting "gpu" to "true" in config.xml, and I've also messed around with the GPU index (everything from -1 to 2) but nothing works. I did not have this many problems on my desktop (also Arch but with a 570). Not even reinstalling F@H and OpenCL packages helps. Any ideas? Thanks!

Did you install the openCL dev (ocl-icd-opencl-dev) packages?

Did you try replacing the init script and making the folding uid part of the video group?

I'm assuming you mean ocl-icd, and yes, I did.

I'm not certain if the package names are the same under Arch as they are in Ubuntu but under Ubuntu you need the development packages for OpenCL not just the stock implementations.

WRT privileges it appears Arch also needs the folding client user to be a member of the video group

@Gorgon I tried adding FAHClient to the video user group, but it seems there is no FAHClient user (or foldingathome).

EDIT: I also tried adding myself to video group, no dice.

under ubuntu the uid is "fahclient"

Case may be important. Try:

getent passwd | sort

to display a list of all configured users

Might be "fah" on Arch.

It was fah, not fahclient or something, but still not working after adding to video group.

I also saw some references to the fah user needing to be owner of /etc/fahclient/* and some other folders (/var/lib/fahclient ?) on the comments for the Arch Package

Due to these kind of issues I've left all my folding systems on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Desktop as I know how to get that working. I've tries 20.04 a couple of times but was never able to figure out exactly what I did to get it working.

Hopefully the newer client when it gets completed will fix a lot of these issues as the current one is showing its age

Well it wasn't working on Ubuntu either and it was much less of a pain to set up on my desktop (just OpenCL, F@H itself, boom done). I dunno.

Depending on the errors you get (you can find them in /var/log/foldingathome/log*.txt), you may need to do some extra steps to get these early amdgpu-module-compatible graphics cards folding. I posted my findings in Metallus's guide here:

Hope it helps with your card.
