GPU in 1x Slot

I want to plug a GPU into a 1x slot on my motherboard. It would just be for a monitor that doesn’t do games, just stuff like discord. I noticed that it has a little notch at what looks like the 1x spot and was wondering if I could really just plug it into the 1x slot and it work. Again, it won’t be doing any sort of load, I have another GPU for that stuff. So would it work?

It’s a Nvidia Quadro 4000 from 2010, so not the RTX 4000

How old is the system?

Assuming both the GPU and the PCI-E slot are full-sized (or the typically short 1x-size) slots and connectors, it should work in theory. 

In practice, most non-OEM motherboards should be able to accept a GPU in the slot, assuming the above match. That being said, do you really need a display adapter for a system that already has a GPU to begin with?

The system itself is pretty new. A year old. Ryzen 7 3700x, MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge WiFi motherboard. 32gb of RAM. And a RTX 2070 Super as my main display out

No I do not but I have the card lying around and I find it kinda cool and wanted to use it a little. This is the specific card, I just searched it on Amazon and it looks right. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078GYGG1B/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_S3LHFb5836V73

There are PCIe x1 dGPUs out there. I do believe Matrox makes them.

I know but I already have a GPU I want to use. The Quadro 4000

But why would you want to use a dGPU from 2010?

Because I already have a RTX card and I found the 4000 cool and I wanted to use it
