Use another computer to copy the contents off the disc and put them onto a flash drive, then boot from that drive on the new PC. AFAIK, nothing special has to be done to the flash drive.

Just download an official iso or even get it digitally originally.

Yes stuff has to be done and you best off making a image of the disc to make that easier.

Use Universal USB Installer it's the best one to install an OS on a flash drive. http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/

Microsoft has their own for windows iso's. Im not saying that wont work but why not use the official one if it available.

It's complete junk and corrupts the image half the time.

Just be aware that the USB utilities have trouble working with OEM copies - mine was a bit of a pig.

I count agree any less with that statement as I have had zero issues with it since launch and what your talking about his highly unlikely no matter what your using.

I have never had any issue also you can use a retail image or OEM image to install either of them.

I literally built my machine three/four weeks ago and Microsoft's USB boot utility told me I couldn't use an OEM key

Which OS (7, 7 sp1, 8, 8.1) and version were you installing and what was the key for?

I was installing Win 8.1 OEM... the key was for Win 8.1 OEM...

Then I dont know what to tell you why it didnt take. My advice would be use the generic 8.1 key and activate in windows once its installed.

...but my system is built. I found a workaround.

It's documented all over that MS's utility doesn't work with OEM copies of Windows 8/8.1
