I built my custom computer around mid 2018, I have been using a 27" 75hz 1440p monitor and a dual 24" 60hz 1080p for just discord or whatever tab I want open.  I use a GTX 1080 Gigabyte G1 8gb and I was wondering if this card would be able to push a 27" 144hz 1440p monitor at high settings on new games such as COD and Ark: Survival Evolved.  If it won't, what card would I need to look into?  I have all my other specs, I use a i7-7700k 16gb ddr4, and all the other specs, if you need it just ask.  Thank you for any help!

If you turn off V-sync and have a FPS counter you should get your answer. I went from Dual 980ti's straight to a 2080ti and about to get a 3090... With my 2080ti I am running 3 27" 144hz 1440p monitors. For a brief moment I put it into surround mode and was still able to get between 60-90 fps on COD with maxed settings. Even just on one monitor I get between 90-120 fps. You probably won't get 144hz on a 1080 but if you can get you're hands on a 3070 or even a 3080 when they come back in stock you should be able to get close to 144hz.

May I ask why you would turn V-sync off? and what is the point of buy a 144hz if you cannot actually hit it and use the monitor to its full potential? Should I just get a 120hz monitor so I can at least play at stable frames?

V-Sync may reduce tearing but it can lower your overall fps (I've had more problems with it on than off). If you turn it off you would be able to see what kind of FPS you are actually getting. Also basically anything over 90hz is negligible unless you have the reaction time to match it. Having a higher refresh rate monitor can also make 60fps look a lot smoother. I initially switched from a 75hz 1080p to this one and all the games I played were even smoother even with slightly lower fps due to the resolution jump. I would still recommend getting a 144hz panel as it will make everything smoother not just games.

Ok that makes sense, so then what card do you think would be the best bang for the buck? The 3090 is a little unrealistic purchase for me personally, would a 3080 or 3070 be better? Maybe a super edition?

If you can afford a 3080 then that's the way to go. best bang for the buck though will be the 3070. I'm only getting a 3090 cuz quite a few games use more than the 11gb of vram that my 2080ti has. (COD, FFXV, etc.) 3080's should be in stock again within the next month or so. With you wanting to run 1440p at 144hz your best choice will be the 3080 regardless.

Ok thats reasonable, and this is the part the confuses me I'll be honest, which 3080 would you pick? I know many different companies take on the 3080 but what is the difference between all of them normally?

normally there isn't much of a difference. I would stick with the main 4 though. EVGA, MSI, Gigabyte, and Asus. I've never owned MSI or Gigabyte so i'm not 100% sure about their quality over the years. I've always stuck with EVGA and I've had Asus for a short period of time. Just stay away from Zotac and PNY they're the lesser known cheap brands.
