Upgrading from Galaxy S7 - Help Me Choose (Android).

nicolaidenmark

Hi all,

The charge port in my S7 is starting to play up so I might be in the market for a new phone.

I bought my S7 in April 2016, so as you can tell, I'm not one to upgrade every year.

don't use my phone for:

  • Watching films.
  • Playing games

DO use my phone for:

  • Calls
  • Texts
  • E-mails
  • The occasional Skype call
  • Web surfing
  • Watching Youtube
  • Casting Lossless 1080P / 4K MKV rips via Plex to ChromeCast (in TV).
  • Facebook
  • Flickr
  • Instagram
  • Check News via News Apps
  • Photos!

Now, as a DSLR photo hobbyist with a few lenses, I know what matters most with photos: sensor size and no matter WHAT Samsung, Apple et.al. claim, there's no way that a 2020 flagship phone can rival even an entry level DSLR for quality.

BUT: I still want a good camera in my phone as I'm often with my DSLR (so, it's about convenience). Still, considering the S7 cameras, almost anything should feel like a great update.

I REALLY would like the IP 68 rating but Samsung Phones with this rating all have curved displays, which are fragile and cost an arm and a leg to repair (half the cost of the phone itself.

I'm currently between the A71 and the S10. The 71 camera looks good and has a flat display, is newer so perhaps updated longer with new android vers. in comparison to the s10.

I'll get a cover / case no matter the choice - is there a waterproof / dustproof case?

Thank you,

Yes, sticking with Android as I have Android TV and Chromecast.

In Denmark, the s10 unlocked is € 538 which would be my maximum, I think. The A71 coimes in at € 383.

I'm not getting a Chinese brand.

The Samsung A71 is pretty good, also Google Pixel 4A, it will get all of your work done without a hiccup.

But lags IP rating. A flat screen, IP68 with a good camera would be great.

Samsung S20 FE...

Flat screen, 120Hz OLED

IP68

OIS on main shooter, 4k60

OIS on telephoto with optical zoom

Base model has 128GB internal storage and can be further expanded

4,500mAh battery, 15W wireless charging

Android 10, One UI 2.5 out of the box

Just released Oct 02

Not Chinese

Sounds good. Will check it out, thanks.

Edit: FE and regular S20 are the same price in Denmark.

I'll avoid the curved screen but get a "lesser" phone for the same money... hmmm...

What's your experience with curved class displays with regards to durability? I'll add a cover and screen protection. My father broke is curved display and the price of a new display half the price of the phone itself.
