Basically this means my laptop isn't supporting NVME, but SATA SSD ?

Yes, it is. Get the SATA one then, actually it's still fast enough (but not as good as NVME) in my opinion, a lot better than using a HDD for boot drive.

If you got the money, get the one with DRAM cache. Would be faster and would be more long-lasting either.

Hello. I own an Asus ROG GL752VW-T4015D Laptop and I want to buy an ssd for it.

So, my problem is that i don't know what type of ssd to buy , sata or nvme.

There are several models of this laptop like GL752VW-DH71 or DH74

Because of this ASUS made it harder to find SSDs for this laptop.

I have updated my bios to the version 303

Mine has this tipe of slot, my question is

This is an SATA or PCIe NVME slot ?516871935_Annotation2020-10-03134357.png.8e85f2a72e4e50f4842e704703a266fc.png

According to ASUS, your laptop supports NVME SSDs

BUT from this thread, that type of laptop MIGHT having different motherboard types.

So to be safe, probably you can ask there for safer side.

Humor me, as you should do.

I would just edit the post but I'm afraid you wouldn't read it.

I found out the good way to found out how, from this thread.

  • Download HWInfo.
  • Expand "Bus" and "PCI Bus #0". Find those two I tagged below.

  • On "SATA AHCI Controller". Find these.

If you find one of the "Port Status" with device not present or something else than "Device Present" on one of those SATA Port, means it support SATA SSD. Why? Because the port exist to use.

It's basically the same as the NVME one. Here's below when I open "PCI Express Root Port #9".

Well, on "Current link width", "Not negotiated" means it's not in use, and means either, my laptop supports NVME x2 drive, which I know from the "Max. Link Width". Which, unfortunately, I found out AFTER I bought my SATA SSD. Now I feel regret getting this one.

BUT, since somehow every laptop can be different for the use of the Root Port, I suggest to check ALL of the PCI Express Root Ports for any empty "Current link width". If all of them are at least occupied (with "Slot Implemented" checklist and "Current Link Width" got it's value), well, your laptop doesn't support it.

It's a long post and kind of technical, but I rather to tell this than getting the wrong one and regret the decision.

Humor me, as you should do.

Welp, both your DVD reader and HDD are on there, and it's supporting SATA SSD either (because there's two empty slots for SATA, yet I'm confused why two SATA slots tho tbh)

How about your both PCI Express Root Port #3 and #4? Both are occupied? If so, then your laptop doesn't support NVME because both ports must be occupied by the GPU and the WLAN card.

Humor me, as you should do.

Yes, it is. Get the SATA one then, actually it's still fast enough (but not as good as NVME) in my opinion, a lot better than using a HDD for boot drive.

If you got the money, get the one with DRAM cache. Would be faster and would be more long-lasting either.
