Is a Cougar GX1050 80+ Gold PSU good?

Rhaemond

I was looking to upgrade from my current FSP Aurum 92+ 650w PSU... Would that PSU be a good upgrade from it? I bought it new last year but I'm looking for a better one... Would the GX1050 be good?

Motherboard: MSI B450m Mortar Max

Processor: Ryzen 7 2700 w/ Wraith Prism

RAM: Klev Cras X 3200mhz 8gb x2

GPU:  Zotac Mini GeForce GTX 1070ti 8GB

PSU: Seasonic GX-750

Case: Inplay Robin 101 + 10 fans w/ hub and remote

Storage: Toshiba 1TB, Western Digital WD Green 1TB, Crucial BX500 480GB

Both the FSP Aurum 92+ and the Cougar GX power supplies are lower quality, cheap power supplies. Depending on how expensive your other hardware is you might want to look into better PSUs.

Just as a side note, the efficiency on these things (80+ gold, 80+ platinum) does not indicate if they are good quality or not. It just tells you if they are efficient or not, but there are other factors too.
Another thing, do you really need 1000w for a PSU? Most computers nowadays don't need more than a 550w or 650w PSU, lower end builds don't even need more than 450w.
A good quality 550w PSU can also be cheaper than a bad 1000w one.

No, the PSU is called Cougar GX1050, it's a 1050w PSU

How so? I thought FSP and Cougar were good brands... I just want to get a better PSU if I have the chance...

OP, why would you want to upgrade your PSU to begin with if the one you have now is working fine? Upgrading your PSU will not move the performance needle of your PC in any positive direction.

Just looking to get a better PSU if given the chance.

Cougar's only good PSUs are the GX-F, LLC, GX-S, and GEX.

The FSP Aurum 92+ is group-reg trash, Tier D

The GX would technically be better at Tier C, but it's an old design from 2011.

Brand doesn't equal quality. FSP and Cougar both have shit, mediocre, decent and good PSUs.

SInce I see you are from the Phillipines, I recommend a few PSUs that are in similar price on Newegg (you can probably find them in local shops cheaper, just listing for reference):

Antec NeoEco Gold 750w (future proofing wattage for something like RTX 3080)

Antec HCG Gold 650w (fully-modular PSU)

SeaSonic FOCUS GM-650

MAIN PC:

CPU: Intel® Core™ i9-9900K Processor  Motherboard: Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro Wifi  CPU Cooler: Scythe Fuma 2  GPU: EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra  RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32GB (4x8GB) 3000Mhz CL15

SECONDARY PC:

How about these: ApexGaming AG-850M, Deepcool DQ750M, Antec BP750, Huntkey MVP K650 Gold, Inwin P75, Raidmax RX-800AE-M, Antec EAG EVO 650w, Segotep GP700P
Honestly, I think the most affordable ones there would be the Huntkey MVP, Raidmax, Segotep, ApexGaming, and Antec.

Apex AG-M: Trash

Deepcool DQ-M: Great, looks like this, don't confuse with DQ-M-V2L which is mediocre.

Antec BP750: Never even heard of this model, probably very old. Stay away.

Raidmax: Seems to be mediocre, same place as DQ-M-V2L

Huntkey MVP-K: Decent.

Inwin P75: Seems good for the tech sheet. No reviews though, so can't say if it's good or not.

Antec EAG EVO: China only PSU, so probably group-reg trash

Segotep GP-P: Decent, better than Huntkey

In terms of quality best to worst:

Deepcool DQ-M (recommended)

In Win P75 (no reviews)

Segotep GP-P (budget pick)

Huntkey MVP-K (budget pick)

Deepcool DQ-M-V2L, Raidmax RX-800AE-M

Antec (BP and EVO), ApexGaming AG-850M (would not touch for anything more than office PCs)

Thank you! I just rechecked, I think I was looking at the DQ-M-V2L dammit.
Yeah I've been looking at the Antec and In Win ones but can't find any reviews, which sucks. I read a review that the ApexGaming was good but eh wasn't surprised since it's price is too good to be true.https://shopee.ph/Apexgaming-Powersupply-80-gold-750w-i.65343395.6347377376

How about the Segotep GP-G though? Or can the Raidmax one handle my current system or is it too risky?

GP-G is slightly worse than the GP-P, about the same as the Huntkey in quality.

The Raidmax is "ok", but I recommend one of the better PSUs for future upgrades.
