The front can probably be cut out and replaced with acrilic so you can see in.

it could totally fit an atx motherboard resting on the back

And then a final cutout in the middle of the back near the bottom for the psu fan in or something. 
and maybe a cutout foot front panel i/o on the top.

It's 4,7kg and I already traveled with it. It's really no fun but you can put it in a backpack and actually carry powerful hardware with you.
