Ram causing bsod

Marbo

Help needed,

I have been getting "System service exception" bsod

Running various diagnostics it has shown an error with ram. Testing various slots and combinations I've narrowed this down to a slot on the MB.

Any ideas before I send it back. It has around 10 months warranty left.

Asrock steel legend b450m

Ryzen 5 2600

32 GB corsair Vengeance 3000mhz ram (4x8gb modules, 2 separate 16gb kits. Speed and timing the same)

Nope, send the board in. They've had a reputation of this for many years now.

Thanks

Hoping it wouldn't come to this so I won't be left without my pc while they sort it.

As its recognising all the ram and running (for a while) would this rule out cpu memory controller?

Want to make sure I'm sending back the correct part.

That's the tricky part.

Without another cpu to test with..... send in both the board and cpu since you won't have a rig for a while.

Take a picture of the MB sticker and ask for a new board. You don't want the old board back again. Have them replace it.

  • 3 weeks later...

I'll never understand computers as long as I have a hole in my ass.

I contacted the vendor. They asked me to check a few things. 1 was to try ram in only A1 with and without xmp. Which led to testing a few more combinations.

When only 1 stick in A1 it passes windows memory diagnostics with and without xmp.

4 sticks pass without xmp but fail with xmp.

3 sticks in a2, b2 and either A1 or b1 pass with both xmp enabled or disabled.

All 4 work individually.

So it seems to be an issue only with all 4 running xmp.

Edit: More research seems to suggest that it's more to do with the Ryzen 5 2600 memory controller not being able to cope with 4 sticks at higher speeds. So manual oc it is.

Ram is Corsair Vengeance 3000mhz 16 20 20 38.

I've left timings as they are and seem to have it stable at 2866 1.3v close enough for me.
