Howdy all,

Machine: Gateway

Mobo: DA75L-aParker

CPU: AMD something or other, but it still works.

Memory: (4x1) 4GB, DDR3, 1333, CL9, ECC

A friend of mine brought me this system to work on to try and fix his problem.  It appears the problem he was having was intermittent that sometimes the machine would turn on and then sometimes the machine would turn off.  He couldn't figure out what would cause the computer to just sort of come and go.  He could be surfing the internet for hours and all of a sudden it would shut down and then again, when going to turn it on, it just wouldn't happen.

After some serious working to try and figure out what the problem was/is, it turned out that nothing was wrong with the mobo or anything else until I got it narrowed down to the on/off switch on the computer case.  Talk about some extremely fine wire, the problem turned out to be a broken wire in the wiring harness that connected the mobo to the wiring harness in the top of the case.  One of the wires (the yellow one, as if it matters, NOT) was broken.  I did everything I could to repair this wire but it is extremely fine, got to be smaller than a human hair but it just wasn't going to happen.  The problem with trying to fix the wire is the break is up inside a hole and really take too much effort and that it would be cheaper to replace than to fix.

After some conversation with him, it was decided to just go ahead and replace the case and in the process fix the wiring issue and get a normal width case instead of this thing that is only four inches wide it would solve the issue that we could install a regular size video card into the only single PCI slot so that he could hook up his camera to use ZOOM to watch the religious videos that his church provides.

His current case is only four inches wide so replacing the case with something normal size is an easy fix, my issue is what "size" case to get.  His motherboard is right at 8 inches square so along with the 8 inches of the mobo, need an additional couple of inches to accommodate the PSU so that's it.  Never built/worked on anything this small and I am completely unfamiliar with case sizes this small.

Brings the question, what case size is this so that I can buy a new one to replace it with and get the thing back working again.  Thanks, and I am looking at Newegg so if you find something there I can look at it before ordering.  Please, keep it on the low side.
