Budget (including currency): 800 USD

Country: Mexico

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Borderlands 3 At best, .NET, Unity, light video editing and 3d modelling

Hello there, i wanted some tips on building something similar to the couple's pc within our budget and needs. so first this is where i stand at:

Right now We have 2 PC's   at home;  an older FX8350 with a  GT 740 and DDR3 RAM, so nothing is upgradeable on that one. The other PC i built 2 years ago is an intel  i3 8100 (LGA 1151)  with an ASUS prime z370-p MOBO. and  It is currently using  Integrated graphics. (It feels weird to admit on using  iGPU, but the wife played casual games, borderlands2 at most in that pc and life got in the way on buying more parts for it).

As my older pc's PSU just died, i began thinking on upgrading both, but seeing how that plan basically means a whole new computer, plus new CPU and Videocard for the newer PC i'm thinking i would be better off attempting a couple's build.

So my idea currently is:

  • ASUS prime z370-p ( already have, according to specs it is fully compatible for this )
  • Intel i9-9700K or 9900K (powerful enough cpu with integrated graphics for the unraid)
  • 16 or 32GB RAM?
  • RTX ( 10, or 20 series, or 3070 if they stay near the price point of release in my area )
  • 2 M.2 drives for SO (optional, but i have seen some rather cheap ones and the board supports them)
  • Third HDD for game libraries (already have)
  • HOW BIG OF A PSU???

Important thing to note here is that i do not own high quality monitors. i would like to have RTX GPU's for future proofing (and maby good monitors next year) But the truth is when it comes to gaming the most Demanding games we play together is fortnite and borderlands at 1440x900 60hz  ( borderlands 3 ran at around 20fps on the FX8350 )

I am a Web and .NET Developer for a living and Unity developer as a hobby, so i also tend to use both  Adobe's CC and 3Ds max.

I dont think i'll have the cash untill november or december, so i am not in a hurry to buy all of this, although i might be able to buy the GPU's if a good deal comes my way  in the meantime.

So what do you think, any tips?

Edit( if 800 usd might or might not be enough, how much do you think it would cost?)

ONe other thing to look at is using something like aster. Then you don't have to worry about virtuliztion and can just run one os and one gpu with multiple users.

Wow i did not know of that software!!  Ok, so it Does look very useful, but do you know or think the gpu could handle 2 people playing something like borderlands 3 simultaneously at those resolutions??

At 1440x900 it should be dooable.

Id also be tempted to just get 2 pcs, or a laptop and a desktop as it more flexable.

i know, but the advantages of having ONE Beefy PC  that turns into 2 OK pcs when needed draws my attention alot. We have 4k Tv's so when Playing solo i could use that as well
