Hi,
i just built my first PC:
MB - Gigabyte b450m S2h
CPU - R5 2600X
GPU - GTX 1660 super
PSU - bequiet! Pure power 11 600W

After putting everything together the PC wont show anything on the monitor. The HDD light doesn't come on. CPU and PSU and case fans are spinning. I don't have a speaker to connect to the motherboard to listen for beeps. I'm going to try to breadboard it later to see if it's shorting somewhere on the case.

I tried to clear the CMOS(shorting the pins and removing the battery) but no result.
Also the GPU and ram and HDD work on my other computer so they are not faulty.

Can the motherboard be faulty?

Is the monitor cable plugged to the GPU or the Motherboard?

Have you checked that your PSU is working fine?

Notice any cable that you forgot to plug in? (In my case I forgot to plug the 8 pin part in the 24pin cable on the PSU XD)

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 @ 4.4GHz 1.2v / GPU: MSI Radeon RX 5700 Mech OC GP (5700XT Bios) @ 2GHz / MB: Asus ROG Strix B450-F / RAM: Kingston HyperX 16GB DDR4 3200MHz CL16 / CASE: MSI MAG Vampiric 010X

Yes both cables are plugged in. CPU cooler cable too. Monitor is hooked to the videocard not the motherboard. I dont know if the psu is working fine. Im gonna take the computer to a shop on monday so i dont have to bang my head all day. And in case something (motherboard cpu or psu since im 100% sure the other parts are working) proves faulty i can just send it back since i bought it recently.

Thanks

Have you tried plugging the monitor into the motherboard and see if you get video there. I have had a couple motherboards where they won’t output via a gpu without going into the bios and changing a setting.

Only other thing I could think of to try would be turn the system off and take out the gpu. Plug the monitor into the motherboard and power it up to see if you get any output.

if that fails it sounds like a faulty motherboard to me so hopefully the computer shop can confirm on Monday.

Ok so i just found out that the ram im using is ECC

HMA451R7MFR8N-TF - SK Hynix 1x 4GB DDR4-2133 RDIMM PC4-17000P-R Single Rank x8 Module

When i open gigabyte board site i see that they have written:

  • Dual Channel Non-ECC Unbuffered DDR4, 2 DIMMs

Can this be a reason for not posting?

This could very likely be the reason it is not posting. I had a quick look at their site which says it is compatible with ECC memory but only unbuffered.
As the memory modules you have installed are registered memory which is not unbuffered. I would recommend getting a hold of compatible memory preferably those listed on the memory support list on gigabytes website and giving those a try.
