big help needed!

I recently installed my intel DZ77RE-75K motherboard. I installed all components and powered it on and it powers on for a second and the powers off. It has a status led on the motherboard and the only think that comes on is a red led under the "hot" label. Also my standby led is working and lights up green so is my cpu heatsink not installed correctly ?

The first thing I would do (not having experience with that mobo itself) is go ahead and pull the heat sink off clean it and re-apply it and give it a go.

Even if you messed up applying the thermal paste or  heatsink, CPU's shouldn't overheat in 1 second to begin with.  Check your motherboard screws/standoffs for shorts.

should take it appart and out of the case.

redo every part. especially the cpu heatsink and thermal paste.

reset the rams, gpus etc.

 

then do a trial boot outside of the computer case before putting it in.

I would find out what the red led labled HOT refers to what exactly? I would also check the standoffs and screws as mentioned by jaypro as grounding issues cause prompt shutdowns and can damage you components.

I would reseat the cooler and reapply the thermal paste. I would get MX4/IC Diamond thermal paste or you can use your existing thermal compound that came with your heatsink and apply a new layer. Linus made a video on how to reseat and reapply thermal compound:

thanks guys i will try these and post results. hopefully its not a dead CPU
