Dell/HP SFF Chassis

I ask not because I am planning to use one, but because I am curious. Has anyone attempted to use a SFF Dell/HP chassis with their personal non-oem hardware? If so, could you provide pictures?

Instructions for frustration management:  

1) Sit at desk.   2) Repeatedly slam forehead against desk.

 

I never said I was smart, just smart enough to be dangerous.

You typically can't because the PSU is proprietary.

Typical OEM Issues:

Power Supplies are custom connectored, and you can't reuse.  They're also generally not ATX.  (Some might be tho.)

No IO Bracket mount.  They're usually punched straight into the case.

Everything Front IO is rarely standard, either.  Same for power button / LEDs.

 

Spend a few bucks and get a real case.

Lately I have been surprised because the PSU has actually been replaceable. Granted they are 1/2U PSUs.

I have been pleasantly surprised as the connectors/power seem to be atx12v. The front i/o connectors as well seem to be the same as any consumer case. The back i/o can be issue. 

I'm not looking at using one as I mentioned, I was just curious if anyone had done so.

Maybe you could provide a link, photo or model number for these pleasant surprises.

 

Because even when the PSU is a standard form factor, sometimes they don't have standard ATX outputs and connectors.  Though that can often be overcome by using an adapter.  To me, it's more trouble than it's worth to dump a bunch of money in a PC just so you can have a "sleeper" that looks like Grandma's word processor.

Sorry, I thought I had replied earlier.

This was a Dell SFF at work a couple of years ago but I could not tell you any information as I no longer work in that room/building nor am I even working on the School's Campus as we are forced to work from home. Sorry. I would provide it if I could.

 

I am pretty certain it was a 1 or 2u server psu. I agree if it is not standard then it is not worth the hassle nor the money.
